A short outing to Vänga Mosse nature reserve

I’ve spent most of my childhood years in the southern parts of Sweden, but as a kid my interest in nature was not what it is today. Thus I was met with quite the challenge during my stay in Borås, when I was to find a nice spot for a small outing with my friends.

I decided to see what nature reserves and parks where listed in the city of Borås own website, and that’s how I found Vänga Mosse nature reserve. It sounded like a nice spot and the photos on Google Maps further sparked my interest. It also seemed like the perfect spot to bring my friends since they have a small child, and they had to be able to easily walk with a stroller.

The nature reserve was founded in 2010 and is about 238 hectare, it has a marked hiking trail that is 2.3km long and 1.8km of it have really wide footbridges since that part of the trail is wheelchair-accessible which I think is so good! It’s important that nature is accessible to all of us, no matter what.

There is a parking lot with a trashcan, some roofed benches and a map showing the area and the different hikes. You can also go there by bus, either to Solgärdet or Vänga kyrka.

The hike starts in a forested area but it doesn’t take long until your out in an open, bog-like field.

There was a big watch tower where I think a lot of people come to see the cranes in spring, I imagine there are loads of them then – we only spotted one and heard a few more. The crane is actually the official animal of Västergötland.

Everything was ridiculously lush and green – so beautiful! I love seeing nature so strong and full of life.

This bridge had a pretty interesting shape to it and we all took a lot of photos of it for a while, even though we had to hurry since it was sunny one minute and raining hard the next. I do love the dramatic skies the weather gave us though.

And I’m pretty grateful that my new backpack is waterproof!

Shout-out to Jenny for helping me snap a few photos of myself since I did not bring a tripod along!
