Last autumn something shifted in me.
My little house on the countryside, the lake with the morning fog dancing across the waters and the deep forests… None of it felt like home anymore. In between travels, work assignments and meetings it became a shell where I came to do laundry, repack my bags and head out again.
Life, for all of us, is divided into different periods or chapters. My chapter in this place had, after two years, come to an end. My heart was somewhere else and it was time to move on.
Winter arrives, Christmas comes and goes and suddenly I pack my life into boxes and after New Years I move in together with Dan.
We are a few weeks into 2018 and I’ve started anew. Now I live just outside the city center of Sundsvall, a town situated in a valley between two mountains. I am creating a home with my loved one and I couldn’t be happier.
A short walk from home is all it takes for me to find second hand stores, mountains and forests, the centre where I go to run errands or attend job meetings. The train station, climbing gym and my friends are also found nearby and right now this is exactly what I need.
It’s all about where I am in life right now, and where I want to be in the future. Living alone in the countryside, leading a slow life far away from everything has been a wonderful experience, and I do know that I will live more remote and closer to nature once more – but right now that is not where I am supposed to be to lead the life I want to.
So, this is me and my new home.
This is where I live and laugh, drink coffee in the mornings and where I work during the days. This is where we cook together, where he is teaching me how to play the guitar and where we dream about the future. This is where we have our friends come over for wine, cheese and boardgame nights and this is where his band practices on Sundays.
This is where I love and feel loved, where I feel safe and happy. It’s homely and it’s a life I am creating together with the one I love.
It storms and snows for a week and while winter rages on outside we spend our evenings and weekends unpacking, filling our home with rustic, raw materials and DIY projects. The macramé hangers are made by Dan, the dream catchers by me together we build our own coffee table.
There’s plants everywhere and lightbulbs on strings help create a cozy atmosphere. Our creative sides and love for nature, climbing, music photography is very apparent and I truly enjoy how much of us you can see and feel in this place already.
We’ve been to IKEA more times in the past few weeks than I’ve been for years, but slowly our space is coming together. Pictures still need to be put up on the walls, we want even more plants and we also have a lot of projects planned for building our own shelves.
Doing this together is so much fun and I am enjoying every moment of it. Right now this is my favorite place in the world.
